The purpose of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work
Act 2005 is to provide for Safety, Health and Welfare of all employees in the
workplace. The Act applies to all employers and employees in the varied works
and duties discharged as part of the activities of LM Developments.
Section 20 of the 2005 Act requires each employer and self employed person to
prepare a written Safety Statement, identify hazards and assess the risk
associated with their activities and their place of work. In addition, the
Safety Statement must detail the level of co-operation required and the
resources required to achieve this goal. Regulation 10 of the 1993 General
Application Regulations further amplifies the requirements for the Safety
Statement.
In response to these requirements, LM Developments has prepared a detailed
Safety Statement, which is divided as follows:
A Safety Statement which describes in broad terms the company's management
programme for securing Safety, Health and Welfare and the systems for
co-operation between employees and management, general methodology and
standards required within the company, and an appendix dealing with hazard
identification and risk assessment.
This Safety Statement deals with the general organisation of the company and
details the responsibility of each employee as regards Safety, Health and
Welfare and specifies the general criterion to be adopted for each construction
project undertaken by the company. However, the statement is of a general
nature and does not deal with the individual safety issues relating to specific
sites. Site specific hazard identification and risk assessment will require to
be carried out for each project and should be addressed in the Safety and
Health Plan prepared under the Safety, Health and Welfare (Construction
Regulations 2001).
